Medical Doctoral Thesis in Infection Biology

Medical thesis projects are available in the DFG-funded Research Training Group Humans and Microbes (RTG 2771). The full-time projects are funded for 1 year, the starting date is flexible and you will receive a monthly stipend of 1037 EUR.

Positions in the following research projects at different locations in Hamburg are available. UKE; Bernard-Nocht-Institute (BNI); Leibniz Institute for Virology (LIV); Centre for Structural Systems Biology (CSSB)/DESY CAMPUS

(1) Control of Yersinia translocon activity and immune recognition (UKE)
(2) Interplay between Yersinia enterocolitica and the autophagosomal/lysosomal system in epithelial host cells and organoids (UKE)
(3) Characterisation of Fic-enzyme targets from Legionella (UKE)
(4) Proteome-based analysis of Borrelia phagosome compaction (UKE)
(5) Dissecting the trafficking events leading to herpesvirus secondary envelopment (CSSB)
(6) Role of importin-α7 in influenza A virus ribonucleoprotein complex assembly and nuclear trafficking (LIV)
(7) Investigation of the BK-Virus life cycle and antiviral mechanisms of BKV specific inhibitors in human primary cells and kidney organoids (UKE)
(8) Key determinants in vesicular trafficking in the human malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum (BNI and CSSB)

• Students of Medicine who would like to do his/her MD thesis in a research lab
• highly motivated
• strong interest in cellular and molecular infection biology
• Conscientious and structured work
• Commitment, team and communication skills, independence and flexibility
• Competent language abilities in English
